How to set up virtual contact cards for flows

Learn how to set up virtual contact cards, which will give you the ability to send contact details that a customer can save on their phone. By prompting your customers to save your number, customers will recognize future text messages, thus improving brand recognition and user engagement with SMS/MMS.

Because virtual contact cards convert a message from SMS to MMS, they can only be sent to recipients in the United States, Australia, and Canada. Virtual contact cards will be removed from messages sent to any other country. 

Also note that you cannot add past profiles to flows that contain a virtual contact card.

Before you begin

If you have not already done so, enable SMS for your Klaviyo account in order to set up virtual contact cards.

Recipients must have texted your number previously in order for virtual contact cards to appear properly. For this reason, we recommend using double opt-in for your SMS lists, tap-to-text forms, or custom keywords to ensure that your customers have texted your number in order to subscribe.

Make sure you are using a sending number capable of sending MMS messages such as a toll-free number or United States short code. MMS is not available for Canadian short codes. 

Please note that if you change your number in Klaviyo, it does not update the phone number in a virtual contact card.

Edit your company's contact information

You can edit the information shown in your virtual contact card at any time. However, please note that when you make any edits, it only affects contact cards that send out in the future. For anyone who already received and saved your contact card, the information on that saved card does not change.  

To edit your company's contact information:

1. Click on the name of your account in the bottom left.
2. Navigate to Settings > SMS.
3. Scroll down to the Company information section. This will be auto-populated with your company's information provided for your account, but you can edit the information specifically for the contact card. To do this, toggle off Use default account information.
   
4. You can also upload a logo image to be associated with your contact card. Your logo must be under 150KB and be one of the following media types: 
   • PNG
   • JPEG
   • GIF
   To ensure you logo image isn't too large, it's recommended to keep its width below a maximum 500 px.
5. If you made any changes to your company's information, click the Save button to save your changes.

Contact cards will appear differently when first received on Android devices versus iOS devices.

• Android
  Your configured company logo will show in the contact card.
• iOS
  In order for a contact card to render as an actual card, iOS requires an initial text from the recipient, such as a double opt-in confirmation. Otherwise, the contact card will show as a file instead of a card.
