How to configure custom reports to track bot clicks

Learn how to track and analyze bot clicks or non-human clicks into your emails via Klaviyo custom reports. Bot clicks may be performed by inbox providers, mobile carriers, or third-party security software to ensure emails do not contain malicious phishing links. However, since these clicks do not occur by a person, they may give false engagement data and skew your marketing strategies. By filtering on bot clicks in custom reports, you can see the total impact of these machine-driven clicks.

Configuring your custom report

In order to detect bot clicks, you will need to add a filter to your Single Metric report. Note that Campaign and Flow Performance reports do not require the bot clicks filter if you have the bot clicks feature enabled.

1. Navigate to Analytics > Custom Reports.
2. You have the option to either choose a pre-built report or create your own report from scratch. With either option, you can add the bot clicks filter.
   
   

Single metric reports

1. From inside an existing report or a new Single Metric report, click on the Group or Filter field to expose the dropdown. Note that the Bot Click property is only available on click metrics.
   
2. Search or find the property for bot clicks from the dropdown and select it. 
3. Optional: If you chose the + Add Filter option make sure that Bot Click equals True, False, or both.
   
4. If you have no more changes to make to your report, click Save & Run Report.

Reviewing and exporting your data

Once you have added your bot click filter, you can either preview, schedule, or export your raw data. If you choose to schedule your report for later review or export it as a CSV, your CSV file will contain new columns for the attributed bot clicks.

In the Single Metric Report, you will see a column labeled “Bot click" in your data export. If Bot click is "True," it means the message was a machine-driven click.
