Learn how to review your account usage in Klaviyo. For all non-contracted accounts (including those using shared billing), the Account usage tab breaks down the usage of each plan for that account; e.g., how many emails and SMS you’ve sent.
If you are on manual billing, you will see your usage as a percentage of your contracted amount.
How often the account usage updates
The usage updates several times per day and is accurate up to the previous day.
The Account usage tab does not contain real-time data. This means that if you send a campaign and immediately check the Account usage tab, it won’t reflect the impact from that campaign.
Usage update
Beginning on September, 15, 2025, Klaviyo is aligning customers’ billing cycles with their usage cycle. Your usage cycle is based on when you first signed up for Klaviyo, which you can view on the Billing Overview page. Historically, your billing cycle ended at midnight on that same day. With this new streamlined approach, you will be billed right when your usage cycle ends. Only the time is changing, the billing date remains the same, and there is no action needed on your part.
Your billing date remains the same and there is nothing that you need to do.
What is my usage cycle?
Your usage cycle is the 30-day interval in which the usage of your plan accrues. Prior to September 15, 2025, your usage cycle reset at midnight in your designated timezone.
A billing cycle is the 30-day interval of time from the end of one billing, or invoice, statement date to the next billing statement date. Your billing cycle is based on when you first signed up for a paid Klaviyo plan, and is visible on your overview page.

View your account usage
To check your account usage:
- Click your account name in the bottom left corner.
- Click Billing.
- Choose Account usage.
The Account usage tab shows how many:
- Active profiles in your account
- Emails you’ve sent
- SMS credits and messages usage
- Orders processed per month (for Reviews plans only)
- Advanced KDP profiles in your account per billing cycle
- History of plan changes (upgrades or downgrades)
You can view your usage over the last 3, 6, or 12 billing cycles.
If you are manually billed, note that Klaviyo shows usage as a percentage of your total contracted amount. If you've gone over your plan limits, you'll also see the overage amount.
Active profile usage
The first graph in the Account usage tab shows your historical profile usage per monthly cycle.
Here, you'll see how many active profiles (i.e., any profile that can be messaged through Klaviyo) you had in your account for any given month. Suppressed, unsubscribed, and deleted profiles do not count as active profiles.
For paid accounts, the monthly cycle is the same as your billing cycle. If you started paying on January 15, you'll see the monthly cycle going from the 15 to 14 of every month. Free accounts use the first of the month.
Note that historical profile usage before February 2023 is estimated; however, present and future billing cycles will be one-for-one with your active profile count throughout each month.
Email usage
Under email usage, you can check how many total emails you sent in the current and previous billing cycles.
- Total emails sent (under Overview)
- Number of emails sent via campaigns versus flows (under Message types)
Manually billed customer example
If you are on a contract, the chart appears similarly to the one below. It shows how many active profiles you have and emails you sent compared to what your contract allows.
If there are overages, the usage will be more than 100%, and the overage amount will be highlighted in green.
SMS credit and message usage
For SMS plans, there are 2 tabs showing your SMS:
- Credits used
- Messages sent

- Total credits used (under Overview)
- Usage in campaigns versus flows (under Message types)
- Usage for SMS versus MMS (under SMS and MMS)
- Usage per message segment (under Message segments)
- Credit usage by country (under Countries)

Message segments are the number of batches it takes for carriers to deliver an SMS or MMS message.
Wireless carriers have a set limit for how many characters each message can contain.
- For SMS, the limit is 160 characters normally or 70 characters when there’s an emoji or special character.
- For MMS, the limit is 1600 characters.
If your text message exceeds one of these limits, carriers automatically break it up into smaller messages (called “message segments”) that are sent individually. Then, carriers reassemble the message segments so that they appear as one text or “bubble” on the recipient’s device.
So even if you intend to send a single message, carriers may break it up into 2 (or more) message segments.
For both, the biggest reason is the cost it takes to send in a certain region or for that message type.
There’s no universal price for SMS, and wireless carriers charge different prices to deliver SMS messages depending on the country. For instance, the carrier fees in New Zealand have been twice as expensive as the fees in Australia.
One thing that is the same, however, is that carriers always charge more for MMS than SMS. This is because MMS messages use a lot more data to send than their plain-text counterparts.

The SMS message usage shows how many messages you’ve sent (but does not show how many credits you’ve used). It shows:
- Total SMS sent (under Overview)
- SMS sent via campaigns versus flows (under Message types)
- SMS versus MMS (under SMS and MMS)
- The number of message segments (under Message segments)
- Countries the SMS messages were sent to (under Countries)
Reviews usage
Review plans are based on the number of orders placed within a billing cycle. In the Reviews usage section, you can see how many orders were placed over the past 3, 6, or 12 billing cycles.
Advanced KDP usage
This graph shows the number of Advanced KDP profiles you had per billing cycle. You can review the total profile count over the past 3, 6, or 12 billing cycles.
History of plan changes
You can also get an overview of all the times you've upgraded or downgraded your plans. This can tell you:
- The plan that was changed
- Whether the change was an upgrade or downgrade
- The price change
- The time the change happened
If you click into a plan, you can see additional details, such as the number of profiles and sends that were either added or removed from your account.
